SEEN AT THE SCENE – A Gentleman’s Guide To Love & Murder

At the Thrasher-Horne Center, the only thing more beautiful than our shows is our audiences. Last Friday night signaled the return of our Broadway Orange Park series for its third season on our Main Stage. To mark the occasion was the regional premiere of the side-splitting musical farce A Gentleman’s Guide To Love & Murder. It told the story of Monty Navarro and his journey to inherit the vast D’Ysquith fortune… by any means necessary. On hand in our grand lobby mingling and snapping pictures before the curtain went up was Gar-Bear, the cuddly mascot of our season sponsor, Garber Automall. As an added bonus, our Executive Director Denton Yockey announced from the stage the winner of our annual New York City vacation package. It affords one of our season subscribers an all-expense paid trip to the Big Apple along with transportation, Midtown Manhattan accommodations, and tickets to two Tony-nominated Broadway shows. This year’s winner was Paul Hamry, surprised in his seat by Marketing Director Anna Zirbel.

SEEN AT THE SCENE – 3 Redneck Tenors

At the Thrasher-Horne Center, the only thing more beautiful than our shows is our audiences. If you happened to spot the shopping cart “slay” landing on the Thrasher-Horne roof Sunday afternoon, it was there delivering the 3 Redneck Tenors and their Christmas Spec-tac-yule-ar. These classically trained opera singers (backed by a seriously talented ballerina) brought their southern-fried spectacle to our stage to help us ring in  Clay County Christmas cheer to our neck o’ the woods. The guys delivered a two hour show packed with stunning vocals and side-splitting southern humor that left the audience ginning like a possum eating a sweet potato. SEEN AT THE SCENE – A Garfield Christmas

At the Thrasher-Horne Center, the only thing more beautiful than our shows is our audiences. Last Friday on our Main Stage we had the pleasure of hosting back-to-back performances of A Garfield Christmas, with audiences of the young and the young at heart all decked out in their Christmas best! Garfield, Odie, Jon, Nermal, Pookie, and a cast of holiday guests (including Elfis) taught us the real meaning of the holiday season: appreciating the blessings in your life and not taking your friends and loved ones for granted. And if everyone’s favorite cartoon cat can’t get you into the Christmas spirit, you may want to hibernate through the rest of the year. SEEN AT THE SCENE – The Martial Artists & Acrobats of China

At the Thrasher-Horne Center, the only thing more beautiful than our shows is our audiences. For The Martial Artists & Acrobats of China, our Main Stage Lobby was transformed into a makeshift dojo, as the good people of Middleburg Martial Arts brought some of their best students to perform a pre-show demonstration on our grand staircase landing! Replete with kicks, chops, kitanas, nunchuks, and even a broken board or two, the students provided the perfect atmosphere, setting the stage for the unbelievable performance that followed. The Hilltop in Orange Park has been a pillar in the community since the 80’s, and for very good reason. The charm and character of the restaurant are qualities you just aren’t going to be able to find elsewhere in the region. After climbing a sizable hill near the Orange Park Mall, you are greeted by a Victorian-style Florida mansion nestled on a lush and sprawling campus canopied by massive live oaks and blanketed with gorgeous landscaping. The feeling of vintage Florida continues inside the building as well, with rooms wrapped in dark woods, decadent tapestries, and lush antiques in every nook and cranny. This is topped off by a massive hand carved bar that is undoubtedly one of the finest in Orange Park. Situated adjacent to the bar, the antique baby grand piano provides a perfect romantic soundtrack throughout the labyrinthine rooms of the mansion.

The Hilltop’s ambiance is highlighted by attentive service and cuisine as well, with options ranging from special-occasion events & dinners for large groups to intimate romantic dinners for individuals, or just a quality meal for friends or families. If you are searching for the perfect spot to dine before a night out at the theatre, or a cozy bar for post-show discussions (coupled with coffee or desserts), look no further. The Hilltop is fully equipped to make your night out a night to remember.

And as an added bonus, Hilltop will offer any Thrasher-Horne guest with a ticket stub 10% off their bill for that perfect pre- or post-show experience!
